It really smells like smoke outside and almost seems like the air looks smokey. Wonder if it's that fire in the Great Dismal Swamp drifting since we didn't get the rain today that was predicted.

I just spoke to family in MD and they are smelling it - I guess that's it then (I did briefly worry that someones' house was on fire)

That's what it is from, the Great Dismal Swamp fires. We came through NC yesterday on our way back from SC and the smoke all along 95 was bad. The news said it would reach us sometime this weekend.

Yes, when we drove to NC on Friday, it smelled (and looked) smoky much of the way. I stopped at the NC Welcome Center, and while I was in there someone asked what all the smoke was and that's exactly what the lady behind the counter said. Interesting that you can smell it up there, too!

Yeah, we just came back from Virginia Beach yesterday - the smoke was thick outside Hampton for quite a few miles of I64 (horrendous traffic). When we smelled it the odor was NOT like a forest fire - I thought it was a chemical fire of some sort (like asphalt smell). But the smoke extended far too far for it to be anything OTHER than the equivalent of a forest fire - miles and miles.
