It might depend on the school. Up until last year, the families in my building didn't find out until open house which is held the Thursday before school starts. Last year my son received a letter right about the same time, the week before school started.

We get them a few days before the open house. Usually at the tail end of August or the beginning of September.

ETA: They want to limit the amount of time parents have to call up and try to change class assignments!

We got a letter from my grandkids school saying "Meet your teacher" is Friday,September 2. And they will post the classroom assignments at 4:00PM on Sept 1 on the front door of the school. No mention of receiving any letter. Maybe they are saving the cost of postage?

Michgc hit the nail on the head. Find out at the last minute...less time to call and complain.

Although, even as a teacher, I bet I won't have my class list until Tuesday Aug. 30 or Wed. the 31st. We always receive our lists sometime during the staff's first week back.

we were told that this letter would go out the week before school. We may or may not actually see it - we don't get possession of the house until wednesday and the open house is friday. should be interesting!

Are you still waiting on SOL scores too? We are, and we took the tests online. We saw the "uncrubbed" scores about 2 days later, but are still waiting for the results to be sent home. At this point they may as well send them home with the students and save the postage.
