the heck is up with falls church city? (Arlington: 2015, tax)

so they knock down the burger king for a mix use building that at first they claimed assisted elderly living. Now its for terminal elderly folks.

they just basically lost out on tax revenue. I really don't get their logic.

id say yes for the city itself when its having money issues. they also could've been more honest about what exactly this was going to be. there is a difference between senior citizens living vs essentially hospice for those who you expect will die 1-3 years at most.

its not that I don't care, its more of the lies the council and the developers lied about to gain support for this development. the only ones who will come out of winning this are the CEOS and developers. the citizens are already facing terrible traffic on broad st and near the lee hwy intersection as is.

so its a lose-lose for the city itself and its residents and a win for the developer and those who run it.

That Burger King was out of place in that location. Went by it a million times, and never once thought to stop there. It is surrounded by plenty of nice fast-casual spots, and regular restaurants.

Standalone drive-thru fast food will surely disappear from higher-density locales like Arlington and Falls Church City. They are a relic of the past century.

What will cost society more in the long run?

- Improving the health and care of the elderly.

- Making people fat and having to subsidize their future health complications (now and when they too are elderly)


I guess the only consolation is that Burger King may kill people off sooner so we spend less time caring for them.

I'm very confused about that article. The writer tries to make the case that the location is very valuable and should be used for something that will yield more tax revenue. But then also states that the facility will be problematic for traffic and parking. I would argue that the proposed use would minimize traffic and parking problems as opposed to something more commercial/residential.
