My friend has a place on Lake Anna, and wanted me to drive down for the day on Saturday. I live in Fairfax, and really hate interstate driving. I have a bit of a phobia when it comes to multi-lane roads. It's stupid, but I seem to get around here just fine taking side streets. So is it totally crazy to take route 1 to fredricksburg ( I think that's where you get off and start heading toward bumpass) instead of 95? I'd probably be leaving about 7:30am.

You can but it will take a longer amount of time with speed limit changes and stop lights along the way.

Where in FX? If you want you can go to Manassas and head out 28 South until it ends at Rt 29. Turn left and take the Culpeper exit for Rt 522. Turn left here then right onto 522 all the way to Lake Anna. Much more scenic going this way. At least once you're on 29.

You could also take 29 to Culpeper and then 522.

I live off 123 and burke center, so maybe the manassas route would be better? I love scenic drives, so if it's nice the extra 30 mins is fine.

I would think so. If you want to totally avoid interstate driving, stay off of I66 and get on Rt. 29 in Fairfax and take it the whole way to Culpepper where you get off at the Rt. 3 exit (3rd Culpepper exit) and then jog over to Rt. 522 which takes you down to the lake. If you take 29, you will be driving through the Manassas battlefield too, very nice. Rt29 and Rt 522 are both very nice drives through the country side. Once you get to the lake you will need more specific directions depending on where you are going as there are several roads that lead off of it to various parts of the lake. Have fun!

Just reread your note. Going through Manassas is the other alternative as Rt 28 goes down to Rt 29. For an extra treat, when you get to that intersection, stop at the local ice cream place, MooThru. It's "real ice cream from real cows by real diary farmers" and is SO good!

I assume you'll come down 66 W? If so, take the Rt 29 to 522 as also recommended. But if you want to avoid all the lights on 29 thru Gainesville stay on 66 to the Rt 15 exit. I believe it's exit 42 but it's the only Rt 15 exit. Turn left on 15 and go to the end. Turn right on 29 here and stay on 29 all the way to the 522 exit. Turn left at the stop then you'll turn right to go to Lake Anna on 522.
