Back when those trains were built, the neighborhoods had different characteristics. Also, back then the selling point of building a train system was to bring workers into DC, so the stops inside DC were mostly in areas with lots of office buildings.

They do have easy access to public transport. You can be in the heart of Georgetown in a 15 minute walk from Foggy Bottom, and in the heart of Adams Morgan in an under 10 minute walk from Woodley Park. The western parts of Georgetown are closer to the Rosslyn stop.
And as previously noted, there are multiple bus lines from the metro if you're unable to walk.
Unless you're elderly or disabled, it's just lazy to say Georgetown or Adams Morgan are hard to get to.

Ill have to walk all the way from Foggy Bottom to get there.
Why don't you catch the DC circulator or Metrobus?

I lived in DC when the metro first opened. What I heard was that residents of Georgetown refused to have a metro there because they thought it would ruin the colonial/old town look. Kind of like they would never allow a MacDonald's there. Seemed pretty snobby to me, but then I didn't live there.

When I was in college (1992-1996), there was a Roy Rogers right on Wisconsin Ave., a few blocks north of M St. They were hypervigilant trying to keep homeless people from grazing at the fixins bar. There also used to be a Burger King by Georgetown Park.

It would have been great for Georgetown's ambiance to have kept the trolley to later connect to Metro at Foggy Bottom. Trollies are making a comeback, and perhaps one day Georgetown will have it again.
