You do realize that those of us who live in apartments, especially high-rises, live in buildings that retain a lot of heat and aren't really designed to get good airflow, right? Not to mention the whole urban heat island effect - Arlington's a good five degrees warmer at night than even a somewhat close in suburb like Vienna.

Seriously, what must people BEFORE AC have done? *ghasp*. I guess you run the AC when its in the 30s too. (im being sarcastic)
I too am a big "what did we all do before _______?!" person
but to be fair, aren't environmentally-caused allergies worse now
than they were 10, 20, etc etc years ago?

(not to mention peanut & other food allergies, but don't get me started...)

Very well aware of the "heat island" affect in the urban core areas. They make nice microclimates during winter for growing plants suited for a zone warmer.

I lived in a high rise for 4 years. 14th floor, though, we had a corner unit with windows on two sides, a large balcony with a big giant sliding glass door, and thus had very good air circulation. Most people in high rises only have windows on 1 side and don't get that kind of circulation. Really more ribbing those that live in homes that have good window exposure on 2 or more sides.
