Driving from Burke or Springfield to Pentagon
Hello All,
Is anyone currently making the commute from Burke or Springfield to the Pentagon? What's the driving time you experience on a daily basis and what alternative transportation means do you use?
We are in the process of moving from Arkansas to possibly virginia to work at the Pentagon. We've got some houses we are looking at buying and one is in Burke and the other is in Springfield. I saw post about west/north springfield, I'm not sure what area of springfield the house we are looking at falls in. I'll have to research that.
Thanks for your help.

i'd look into taking an express bus to the pentagon. i pretty sure one goes from the franconia metro to the pentagon. Some may go from other parts of Springfield and maybe even burke. It is much better than driving anyday.

You could take the Metro straight from Franconia-Springfield to the Pentagon. See map:
Metro - Metrorail System Map
Here's the fare schedule (plus $3.75 a day for parking):
Metro - Metro fares and hours
You could mapquest the distance from the houses you are considering to the Metro to see which would be more convenient.
There are other carpool, slug line, park-and-ride alternatives available, but I don't know a lot of details on those.

As Alanboy and Yankeesfan have suggested, if you choose public transportation, your best alternative may be to take an express bus to the Pentagon from Burke and Springfield. Check out the routes for 17 and 18 under Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for your closest bus stop. You can always drive or take a bus to the Franconia-Springfield metro and take the subway to the Pentagon.

I use to metro from Springfield to Crystal City (2 stops before Pentagon).
If I left early, it would take me about 10-15 mins to drive to metro. The actual ride to Crystal City took about 20 mins, so maybe 25 mins to Pentagon. Overall, adding time for parking and waiting for train, my commute was about 45 mins so I would expect about 1 hour door to door.
Driving is an option if you leave early in the morning. With no traffic issues, it would probably take you about 25 mins to drive in. There are various slug lines in Springfield and Burke also.
I would definately look for housing in West Springfield or Burke. Great neighborhoods, very convenient and safe.
