Cell phones in NOVA?
Who would you all recommend to get cellular service through? It's so hard to know about reception until you actually get there with one. Our contract will be up with AT&T about the time we move, so just wondering how they were there? Or Verizon? T-Mobile? We are open to whomever!

I would recommend Verizon wireless for reception. It's great even when you are in the subway.

Verizon has always worked well for me in Virginia. And you can't beat the "In-Network"! And I agree with the above poster, I have also gotten service while on the Metro.

They're all crooks, but Verizon seems to lbe the best around here.
PS: Verizon is the ONLY one that works UNDERGROUND in the subway....they have an exclusive deal with Metro....wires strung in the tubes, or whatever it takes...

Most companies and people use Verizon. I think Verizon is the only service that works on the Metro.

I use verizon and have no major complaints. Yes, I can use my phone in the subway also, but I can't use it in Harris Teeter! Go figure.

I use Sprint and have no problems with it. I notice that my friends who use Verizon can't get any signal in my building (in Ballston) and have to use my phone to make calls.

Verizon has some exclusive deal with the Metro? That seems illegal to me.

Yeah they have exclusive rights to the Metro tunnels for now. Other carriers can use it if you're willing to pay the roaming charges though.

Why not just stay with AT&T until you get settled? They will do whatever it takes to keep you as a customer, including change your phone to a local number (you are not required to renew your contract). If you sign up for the wrong service, it might work at your rental home, then not work at your permanent home later.
Use the AT&T phone in NoVA, then price shop after you move, just make sure the new phone works in your new home & at work during the tryout period. Get more information at Virginia Cellular Reviews, and How to Switch Cellular Carriers, or strong arm AT&T for a better phone or deal.
