I am relocating to Woodbridge and commuting into Alexandria (Old Town). Coming from middle America, commuter trains are a relatively new concept to me. Can anyone share with me their experiences on the VRE - How crowded is it typically? Is it ever so crowded that you can't get on? Obviously weather can impact the schedule, but does it typically run on time? Thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

You're referring to the Fredricksburg Line. I have never been on that line yet, but what I have been reading and few friends who ride are telling me is that it depends on what time you take the train in and out of the city.

It will be crowded, but not so crowded that you will always have a hard time getting a seat. At worst, you'll to have to stand some days, but it's not like the DC Metro where sometimes you'll have to wait for another train b/c of packed cars. It's only a 30 minute train ride, which is not bad at all.
