I agree with you about overpacking and feel that fees for large, excessive, or heavy baggage are justified. But I also feel like charging for carryons larger than a purse or small backpack is a bit hard on the travelers who do pack light. It makes Spirit feel like the youth hostel of the skies, lol.

My wife and I used Spirit to Cancun and I thought it was great. I think they still fly out of terminal 1 (the old terminal).

Spirit sucks! Their customer service is bad and they do not have much leg room if you are tall. They are the Wal-mart of planes, Not one luxury to them. They charge you 25 for carry-on and even a couple of bucks to have an airplane drink (only water is free). All that said, just like with Wal-mart, if the price is low enough go for it!
