sweet-t-virginia is on a distinguished road
I loved the Northern Virginia area and lived there most of my life. I was born and raised in Arlington.

You didn't say if you were looking for a job, what kind of houses you would like, if you have children.....

The Vienna/Fairfax/Chantilly area is wonderful. There are great schools and many things to do. If you choose to live in Virginia and work in DC, the metro (our subway system) is a great way to get to work.

The weather here is a lot different from CA; we have four seasons and each is special. When I visited CA (Orange County) the sky was a wierd shade of orange-red and people there said it was sunny haze. I think that means smog. I was wondering if I would like living there and being able to see the air I breathe. I was so delighted to get back home to Virginia and enjoy the blue sky.

I went to Boston on a business trip in February and thought I would freeze to death. It was bitterly cold. We took the subway to get to the convention center and it was terribly confusing - I was glad that our host knew the way. The metro has a map in each car and when I initially started using it I would sit where I could see the stops until I got familiar with it.

It's rather expensive to live in Northern Virginia but the benefits outweigh that. I think it would be expensive to live in Boston as well.

If you keep reading these forums you will probably get answers to all of your questions. It would probably be a good idea to visit the area first to see where you would like to live.

Good luck with your search!

GOOD:
Good Shopping (Tysons)
Good Government
Relatively Strict Zoning
Lots of Trees (But thousands being cut every month for cookie cutter devlopments)
Good job Market

Bad:
Traffic
Cost of Living
Lots of type A people with demanding employers expecting long hours
Tons of illegal Aliens and overwelming diversity (White Flight)
Cookie Cutter Development
Long Trip to the Countryside due to sprawl
