We are moving to the area in January. I have had some really great tips so far on where to possibly live - in or near Chantilly. Now just wondering what people's personal experiences or opinions are of Oak Hill ELS versus Lees Corner ELS. Thanks so much everyone!!!

We looked in those 2 districts. I think I would have preferred Oak Hill just because they have the FLES language program and they are an AAP center.

That's interesting to know...thanks! We are slightly leaning towards Oak Hill, but really are seriously on the fence about either school, and hence what area to buy a house. As we don't know the area -at all- it's hard to know much except for what we research on the Internet.
In addition to academics, you wouldn't happen to know how the sports are at both schools? Any information is much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Not sure what you mean by sports. Everyone has PE. You might be able to find out about after school programs at the schools by looking at their school and PTA websites as most of the after school programs at elementary level are ran by the PTAs. If you are wanting information on sports, both areas feed into the Chantilly Youth Association which covers that part of the county for athletic sports. Check their website for what they offer, Chantilly Youth Association

I had one other reason I preferred Oak Hill's area - we could walk to more stuff from there. The Lees Corner district is not really walking distance to much. But it had nothing to do with the school itself, just the amenities of the community.

Are you trying to stay North of 50? You may also want to check out the Floris area - we were outbid on a short sale in the neighborhood behind that school. Nice neighborhood - BIG yards! But if you're willing to go just south of 50, I think Greenbriar and Poplar Tree ES areas would also be to your liking.

What do you think of Franklin middle school? Is it on par with Beth Carson?

Someone else is going to have to field the middle school question. I was basing my opinion on the higher schools more on greatschools ratings and word of mouth. I did try to read reviews a little, but these are not a representative sample, as we all know. It appeared the middle schools were both good schools. You can always check the school profiles and websites and what not to get a sense of the schools if you are interested.

With a child in K now, I was most interested in the ES level and choosing a school with the programs we were hoping for. Leaving Reston meant we were giving up our chance at one of the language immersion schools nearby, so the FLES program was important to me. Not everyone cares about that - I did. Middle School is a tough level anyway - and the administration changes over time. I was more impressed with the proximity to amenities than to stressing about which middle school was the better one. They all filter into Chantilly HS, so the kids will all meet back up eventually.

Do you have a child going to Oak Hill? If yes, what is your unbiased opinion about Oak Hill?
Thanks!
