I just recently moved from Florida only to find out there are no Chase banks in NOVA. So now I need to switch. Can anyone recommend a good bank? Im not looking for all sorts of bells and whistles. I was happy with Chase checking and savings.
One parameter must be that there are branches in south Florida aswell, because I will be traveling down there several times a year.

I wouldn't mind a sign up bonus neither!

Are you *sure* there are no Chase banks in NOVA? There's definitely one in NW DC, on MacArthur.

We use WF. I liked Wachovia a lot and wasn't thrilled when WF bought them--but so far, no problems.

BTW, if you want service that is reportedly very personal and almost a throwback, check out Burke & Herbert, based in Alexandria. Only caveat is that they have few ATMs--though I'm betting they have some type of reimbursement of ATM fees from other banks.

I think TD Bank is down in FL. I love them and switched from what was Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) and could not be happier. Great hours and you can get your check card and starter checks the same day you open your account.

I've been with ING since they took over Netbank. 50 bonus for signing up. So many ATMs, all over the World. No fees....Negative--you must mail in, any non direct deposit checks to Minnesota.
HSBC is now in Nova, also. Chase offers accounts so that they can prey on innocent victims by selling them non-insured products like International Bond Funds. Something tells me they have quite a few bonds that are not properly marked to market........Bank One was a lot better.

I am with PNC and I really like them. They have ATMs everywhere too, no surcharge for them at all. Also PNC atm's are in all Wawa's, which is a plus. They have extended their weekend hours so now they're open 7 days a week around here in NoVA. You don't have to have a minimum in your checking account - right now I have $20 in there (I transfer $ from my savings account when I need to, but for now that's my minimum - my husband has TD bank and you have to have a $100 minimum, I think). Anyway I am very happy with PNC and would not switch. No ridiculous fees for other reasons either, and they have awesome overdraft protection

ING was bought by Capital One.

For a local bank we have BB&T - no fee checking if you have direct deposit.

I know that SunTrust has branches in South Florida as well as here. I used them up here and like the convenience of using a branch in Delray Beach when we visit my folks there.

yes, you are correct. The transition was so seemless that I didn't even notice. Now the 6th largest bank by deposits in the US. Still no fees....
Capital One Buys ING Direct – Now What?
