I am relocating to the Fort Belvoir area. I am currently living in Atlanta GA. What are areas you would recommend to look for apartments? I do not know anything about the neighborhoods and the “high crime areas or commuting by car. Any areas I should avoid. Any suggestions or advice? It would be greatly appreciated. Thx a lot.

Will you actually be working on base? If so, are you military or civilian?

What is your preferred budget?

Old Town Alexandria or just south of it. Avoid route 1 near the base.

As Tone509 pointed out, your choice depends at least 90% on what you can afford to pay. Your choices as a junior civilian or enlisted person are a lot different than the choices open to a GS-13 plus or 03 or above officer.

Old Town is OK for someone with a big fat paycheck. If you are an NCO or junior officer you will either have to settle for the Huntington area (dicey), Springfield, Woodbridge (can be dicey), or face a brutal commute up from the south (Stafford or further). If you are junior enlisted, you will need base housing or family members you can move in with.
