I've read that the "The committee required that the new headquarters occupy federally-owned land within 2 miles of a Metro station and within 2½ miles of the Capital Beltway, among other requirements."

To lure the FBI, Prince George's must be more nimble - Greater Greater Washington

Either the Loudoun County Government is talking out their ass or I'm missing something here. Loudoun county is very far from the Beltway.

With that criteria in place it sounds like they've already decided on a location. "within 2.5 miles of the beltway"? Not 3, not 5? Probably the GSA warehouses in Springfield would be my guess. It's already federally owned and it's probably within 2.5 miles of the beltway although I dont think it's near a metro...

I read that the GSA warehouse in Springfield is a 1/2 mile from the Springfield/Franconia Metro station.

The GSA location is very close to the Franconia-Springfield station. It's also very close to 95 and the Beltway.

Oh wow. I had no idea the metro was there. I always think of the metro running east and west of DC and forget about north and south.

MoCo is apparently interested too, but I havent heard a location mentioned.

Fairfax and PG are the most serious candidates I think. But Loudoun doesn't lose anything by suggesting its an option now does it? Other than annoying the Fairfax BOS - which doesnt seem to have taken it as badly as PG is taking MoCos bid (perhaps because LoCo bid early - and perhaps because after the Silver Line drama, LoCo really can't annoy the FFX BOS any more than they already have)

I was just on Google maps looking at the GSA warehouse location and it looks like it meets all the criteria that the FBI is looking for. The Metro is very close, they can even build a nice walkway to and from the station, its close to the Beltway and there is plenty of acreage. It will be a nice boost for the Springfield area if they decide to relocate there.
