Hello,

My wife and I just moved into town from out of state and all of our family is several ways away. Both of us work full-time (M-F 8-4) and we have our 16 month old in daycare.
A week ago the baby came down with a high fever and we both had to switch off and miss a few days of work without pay to take care of her.

Is there any service in which a reputable nanny can come to our house and spend the day with the baby if she gets sick again? We would love to do it ourselves, but lack of sick time might prevent us from doing so.

Thank you

Hello. I'm in a similary situation - we both work full-time and our 11 month old baby is in daycare. He's had several ear infections and colds and I've had to take off quite a few days to care for him when he has been sick.

I haven't used the service yet, but I was reading a lot on sittercity.com the other day. When you look at the profiles for each person, I could see that many of them indicated that they would care for a sick child.

Again, I don't have any first hand experience, but it might be worth researching.

Good luck!

You might post an ad on Craigslist and/or in your neighborhood (HOA newsletter if you have one) for an on-call sitter. We've had same issues lately, I've had to miss work and don't get any paid time off. Stinks!

Where in Nova are you? This is a daycare that offers care for sick children, even if they are not regular attendees at the daycare. It is in Haymarket, in the western part of Prince William County.

Aw thanks! But I should give a disclaimer that I haven't actually used the service--so I can't "vouch" for it--just giving it as an option.

A (very) pricey but good option is White House Nannies. I believe the fee is $300 annually, and then you are eligible to use their temporary nanny services. Their hourly rates are on the higher end of DC-centric nanny rates.
