During the day, we have some low flying helicopters in our area, and it shakes the house. It gets old after a while

They've been checking power lines lately. Not sure if that's what you're hearing or not but it's possible. Could also be life flights which of course can fly anytime of the day for emergencies.

I've called the FAA before. I got put through to some operations person. I don't remember beyond that, and I don't remember concluding that it definitely did some good or definitely didn't.

I get it that law enforcment needs to occasionally fly around looking for fugitives, but when it's a regular occurrence, I suspect the helos are just being transported, which should be done at a higher altitude or a different flight path.

You could also contact your congressman's office. I contacted ours about airplane noise from DCA (with flights not taking their prescribed route over the river but instead diverting west over Arlington), and I actually got a great response from a staff member.
