Haven't had dim sum in a while and am curious where the best spots for that are now. I used to go to Fortune on route 7 and then in 7 Corners. Anyone have recommendations for anywhere besides there?

Don't know if it is the best - but satisifies my daughter from Hong Kong everytime she is in town.

Mark's Duck House

I recommend avoiding Marks Duck House, although it seems to be quite popular. I don't mind waiting in line or even the rude staff which can be the norm in popular dim sum places but I do think there should be some basic hygiene practiced by the staff. For example, when I ask for water the lady had her hand grasping the tip of the rim and she once dropped her tongs on the floor while transferring the dim sum cans and just picked it up and grabbed other stuff. I kinna worried about what might be happening in the back when the servers are allowed to get away from this. This could have been one bad apple buti don't want to venture out here with my family. I would pay more for a cleaner, decently hygienic place.

Default Oriental Gourmet

Oriental Gourmet in the Harrison Street shopping center (next to Pietanza and Elevation Burger) is an alternative to Mark's Duck House and Fortune. You have to order your dim sum from a menu, but the food we've had was very good - beef noodle soup, steamed dumplings, etc. Their chef is from Taiwan if that helps.

Seconded (if it's restricted to NVA).

But if I really want dimsum, I'd go to Oriental East in Silver Springs, MD.

We've always eaten dim sum at A&J Chinese Restaurant off of Little River Turnpike in Annandale, it's the best we've found around here.

Marks Duck House is decent but somewhat pricey for dim sum, and we never really cared for Fortune.

You'll find a few more chinese restaurants in Maryland. Unfortunately, there's not really a great dim sum place in the area.

We like Mark's Duck House - I've been going there (to eat regular food, not dim sum) since it was INSIDE the Eden Shopping Center building. Their dim sum is good but they're REAL busy and crowded when it's served fresh (you can get dim sum just about any time otherwise - we often order their chive dumplings with our "regular" takeout of duck, etc).

Fortune used to be fantastic for dim sum when it was, I think, located on Route 7. Since it moved and got smaller they seem to be okay for regular food but, for whatever reason, I haven't tried their dim sum again.
