My husband has a flat tire on his jeep. The jeep has a lift with larger tires, so he can't put the spare on it. He's stuck in Kingstowne, and works at the Pentagon. Can anyone recommend a good tire place that can tow him, and hopefully is not too far away between hotel/work/metro? Really don't want to get ripped off by a hack shop. Thanks!

I think you can probably avoid getting ripped off by any of the tire shops as long as you avoid signing up for additional services. And don't tell them your predicament. He should just walk in and say he's looking for a spare for the Jeep (which of course is elsewhere) and is not interested in anything else.

If you weren't in a huge hurry, I'd recommend TireRack online. I just bought a set of four snow tires from them, and they arrived *the next day.* Great deal on 'em, too.

Can the tire be plugged, like a nail hole that is more than 1" from the sidewalls? If so, he can temporarily plug it, inflate the tire and drive it to a tire shop. If he's got a specific tire he needs, it may not be stocked so he'll have to wait till it comes into the shop.
