Looks like I'll probably land the job that I came down to Virginia to interview for. But the interviewer asked me twice. Are you sure you wanna come here from Ca? "Virginia summers are hot and humid"

================================================== ====

1. How many average over 100 degree days do you have in a year?
2. How many average days of sunshine you have in a year?
3. How many inches of snow per year? What months snow?
4. When does it start to warm up = 70 degrees? after march?

Is summer really that bad? Hot, humid, sticky.. sometimes rainy.. tornado?

I dunno?

1. How many average over 100 degree days do you have in a year? Maybe 1 or 2
2. How many average days of sunshine you have in a year? 220 (counting partly sunny)
3. How many inches of snow per year? What months snow? 15" Count on Jan., Feb., and some wet March snow.
4. When does it start to warm up = 70 degrees? after march? Maybe 1 or two days in March. April for sure. The beginning of Jan. was just around 60, so you never know.

I dunno? I don't think it is that bad, but everyone will have a different opinion. Our house is quite shaded and we spend a lot of time at the pool.
My guesses/estimates. ^

Intellicast - Fairfax Historic Weather Averages in Virginia (22038)

I guess this will give you an idea, but there is a 93 degree spread between the record highs and lows for January.

1. How many average over 100 degree days do you have in a year?

Not that many--but this is the wrong metric. We have a bunch that feel hot and sticky because it's so humid here. 90 degrees when it's humid feels like 110 where it's dry.

2. How many average days of sunshine you have in a year?

Too many to count. Maybe 250? We do get a lot of rain.

3. How many inches of snow per year? What months snow?

This varies a lot; we get a ton of snow in the late winter and spring--January through March.

4. When does it start to warm up = 70 degrees? after march?

I'd say mid-April.

Yeah, it's real sweaty. No tornados, though.

Stay in the A/C and you'll be fine.

I moved here from Pgh. - as long as you have heat and a/c in your house, you'll be fine. Dress accordingly.

While I agree that it's rare for a tornado to actually touch down in this area, the summer is loaded with strong (or potentially strong) storms that cause many, many tornado watches and warnings.

We had several tornados last year, and in previous years.

We did? Where they in the western part of the county? We seem to get a number of watches though and a few warnings. Some people get all worked up over watches, but I have never understood why.

I think Virginia as a state only averages about 7 tornadoes per year. I just saw a map that showed 12 in Fairfax County between 1950 and 2000.
