My Dh has requested gyros for his birthday dinner on Thrusday. In Nebraska (many, many years ago) I used to purchase the meat frozen at the grocery store. I've been looking here, and haven't seen it. Anyone know where I can buy it? I want it pre cooked, cut and seasoned - just want to thaw and stuff into pitas? I didn't see it at Wegmans today, and I thought for sure they'd have it.

Since gyros are basically the same thing as shwarma, I'd suggest a halal market. There's one at the Skyline Drive strip mall, right at the intersection of Seminary Road and George Mason. There's also one on Lee Highway. And probably a ton in Falls Church.

Or if you can find a Greek market. (Do we have those in NOVA?)

Don't know of a Greek market, per se. Meditteranean Bakery on Pickett Road in Alexandria (same center as the Home Depot) has a big grocery department. Lebanese Butcher in Falls Church on Hillwood Avenue near Annandale Road intersection is another place to try. If you're out towards the Herndon area, there's a halal butcher in the center with the K-Mart.

Thanks - we found some at the place on Hillwood, along with some other yummy greek stuff. Price was right too! Hopefully it's good, we're having it tonight.
