Hello All,

My fiancee and I will be relocating to Gainesville about 2 months from now, and while I have my job all lined up (job transfer from NY) she does not. Currently she is employed in the admissions department of a hospital here but she also has experience as a receptionist/assistant in a dental office. In looking through Craigslist postings there appears to be a large number of front office/receptionist positions available for all sorts of medical offices, which we are thinking may be a good option if she cannot get a job in a hospital there. Does anyone have any idea of the pay range that usually accompanies those positions? Everything seems to just say "Salary - Based on experience" which doesn't really help. We're just trying to get a rough idea of how much she could expect to be making once we move. Thanks!

Sorry, we are not permitting any more Rangers fans to move to VA.

Kidding, I don't have any info for you but it just needed to be said. Good luck with your relocation!

Haha, yeah I'm already getting myself prepared for being a fan in enemy territory after spending my entire life here in NY, but at least with the way the Giants and Rangers are playing now I don't have to be embarrassed about it

I work as a receptionist/admin person but it is not in a medical field. Not sure if this will help, but my salary is about $35k per year. I don't pay health insurance because my husband has excellent insurance through his job. Maybe that would help? I have always wanted to work in a medical related front desk job (or medical related field) but I don't have the medical experience. I wish you luck!

Also, I am a Flyers fan, so I got some backlash when I first came down 6 years ago, but hockey is just a great sport in general. I go to Capitals games (and yes I root for the Caps because hey, I live here, gotta show some support for the local team).

You might want to check out Salary.com - Salary Information, Job Search, Education Opportunities and Career Advice, which allows you to input the zip code as well as the job title.

Starting salary should be around $30k but maybe a little less in Gainesville. Periodically and in the past, I have looked for positions in Woodbridge (closer to where I live) and been disappointed in starting salaries. She may want to focus her search within Fairfax.

One of the best ways to go about finding an adminstrative position in the area is trying out the temp/temp to hire agencies. They don't cost you anything and some of them will give her temp positions until they can find a permanent position. That is how I found my job.

I started out as a receptionist at $30k, demonstrated how awesome I am for 2 years and was promoted to executive assistant (making close to $50k) when the position became available.

A good receptionist/front office attendant is hard to find. I figured we were a dime a dozen but when searching for someone to take the receptionist position I vacated - I found that not to be the case.

The good news is Gainesville is surrounded by doctor offices galore. Heathcote Blvd has tons, also some sprinkled on Lee Highway in Gainesville. A cancer center at Lake Manassas. (really Gainesville area) A ton in Manassas which would not be a bad commute.

Not sure if their career page has salaries

I am in a medical front office position in Manassas. I wouldn't look long @ Prince William Health System. They base their salary scale on the North Carolina market as they are now owned by Novant, based out of NC. Apparently the cost of living is pretty low in NC. Inova Health System has much better salaries and benefits. I work for a family practice. Typically specialists pay better. Good luck to your wife!
