I am commuting home with my toddler tonight and am trying to figure out how long it will take from Alexandria to Tysons (and then the toll road to the greenway) if we leave around 5:30. If it's too terrible than I guess we'll find somewhere to eat dinner in Alexandria and try to wait out the traffic. We live in Leesburg so it's going to be a haul no matter what. Thanks for any input you can provide!

Could take 45 minutes - could take an hour. I did almost the same route last week and took over an hour with rain. Started at 4:45 from the 395/495 ramp. But a friend left same place at closer to 6 and it was about 45 minutes. But one accident...bam!

Alexandria to Leesburg? It should take more than an hour at that time. 45 minutes with no traffic.

Yeah, I'm just trying to get a feel for the 495 portion of the route. I'm thinking since we can use the HOV lane of the toll road it won't be too terrible for that leg of the journey, but I guess yeah, one accident and we're in trouble. When I leave Alexandria at 4 I can get home to Leesburg by 5:15 which isn't too bad but I'm nervous to do this drive in the middle of rush hour with a hungry toddler in the back seat!

Too late for this comment, but I was going to say to bring a sippy cup and some Goldfish crackers. How did it go?
