How crazy would a commute from Warrenton to Annandale be? I'm considering renting a cottage a bit further out so I can have a place that feels like my own without living in a basement or having roommates.

It's not completely unreasonable, just keep in mind you'll have plenty of company to and from there. I have friends who commute from Front Royal to Alexandria, but they don't complain that much about it.

How crazy it is depends on what makes you crazy. Also depends on your commuting hours. If you are right in the midst of the other lemmings, you're going to need patience and whatever coping skills you've got to handle stop and go...or stop, stop, stop and go...traffic. If you're not particularly bothered by that, you like music or talk radio or audio books and you figure traffic is just part of the deal, no problem.

Plenty of people do it. Some do it and hate it, some do it and don't even think about it. If you KNOW you're a person who hates that kind of commute and traffic, think twice. If you're someone who values the living situation over the driving situation, Warrenton is a sweet and friendly town.
