When I moved from Ohio we were able to get lots of boxes from grocery stores, big box stores, and so on.

Do you guys think we can do that for our move from Arlington to Alexandra?

We are looking for free options first!

Thanks!

I got the majority of our moving boxes off craigslist and freecycle. People list them for free typically - I posted a wanted ad as well.

The best boxes we used, when we moved this summer was Apple boxes we got from our local Giant.

We would stop in once a week or so usually when food shopping and pick up what they had. After the 2nd or 3rd visit they kept us a seperate stock pile. They were the best boxes we used, even better then the ones you can buy. They are sturdy and come with a top, that can be used as another box for non breakables.

Bubble wrap however.....we did shell out some $$ for many large rolls of that, and used all but a half a roll.

Contact your local grocery store and ask them if you can have their Egg Boxes. They are sturdy, good size for packing and have handles.

Liquor stores. Especially for books and fragile items. Plus they're attractive.

Some stores have large dumpsters in the back for cardboard. You could ask if you can peruse and get some. It's great for item specific boxes -- for example, long boxes from florists, flat boxes for pictures and paintings from framing shops, boxes with lids from STAPLES or other office supply stores, etc.

Good luck!

I will also recommend going to the Liquor stores and asking.
Office buildings often have large cardboard recycling dumpsters behind them too. Tons of paper boxes and computer boxes can be had from those.
