Hi there, we just bought a home in Arlington and our basement is in pretty bad shape (split up in two rooms) and we need someone to come in and take a look at the space and come up with some kind of design or computer rendering that you see often on HGTV, for instance. That way we can get some ideas and options before we do some remodeling. Who should we seek out for that kind of job?

Secondly, any good contractors that do work in older (and smaller) Arlington homes? Our place is like 1,200 sqft total! We don't have a huge budget like some of the more affluent Arlington residents either.

Call Jeff Taylor at 703-909-2020 (Basset & Taylor Contracting). They are very good and reasonably priced - not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Good quality work.

That's it? Any more suggestions out there? I'm surprised that's all Arlington has to offer?

Angie's list's reason for existence is to help people find reliable/good contractors.

That's kind of a niche of contractors. Most remodeling contractors really just work off of your designs. I think what you need is really an interior designer (for the sketches and ideas) and then also a contractor that can accomplish those ideas.

I suggest posting your question on the Real Estate forum on the DC Urban Mom site. There are lots of Arlington folks posting there (and no, not all of them are moms and/or dads).
