What are the safe places to take a walk before dark in Reston? I need to exercise, but don't like the gym.

we lived in the North Point area for 8 years. I never even thought twice about going for a walk before dark. The trails are lovely, and usually you will run into others doing exactly what you are talking about doing. And I did it many times with my daughter when she was a baby and my husband wasn't home after I got home from work.

You could go up to the Town Center and walk around that area, if you feel at all unsafe on the wooded trails. There is plenty of sidewalk in that section of town.

How do you like living in North Point? I almost moved there a few years ago, but ended buying a place in Rockville. Now I have to deal with a very long commute back to Reston.

I like to walk on the trails near the Walker Nature Center. Good place to park and talk a walk.

You may want to consider joining the Reston Herndon Fitness Activity MeetUp. They do lots of walking in Reston.

We really enjoyed it. Left last summer just because it was time for us to purchase a single family home and we didn't have the budget for Reston. After being spoiled by our North Point, we refused to live anywhere where we couldn't walk to a grocery store and a number of other amenities (which may or may not include a liquor store...).

We were walking distance to North Point, several pools, parks, etc. It was a good location for us as a young family. We enjoyed longer walks to Home Depot area, Lake Anne farner's market, even Reston Town Center. If our TH weren't so darn small, we would never have left. I highly recommend the area, as long as you understand the pros and cons of living in Reston.

avoid North Shore Dr. area, the tunnel under Reston Pkwy by the Best Buy Plaza and Hunters Woods Plaza area.

The tunnel? Has there been a problem there lately? I take the tunnel all the time and I like how wide and well lit it is. But maybe that's changed recently? I admit I haven't used the tunnel for a month or so.

FWIW my favorite walk is around Lake Anne and then down to Reston Town Center.
