Wink relocating so NoVa soon

Good afternoon all!
My family and I currently live in KS..born and raised. My husband has received military orders to relocate to fort belvoir this summer. Unfortunately the housing waiting list to love on post is 12 months.....therefore we are looking/needing a home off post.

Our "wish list" is
1- in very close proximity to ft belvoir as my hubby will report to work there daily and we want our children to go to the school on post.

2- in a quiet family friendly neighborhood, preferably with other military families close by

3- not to expensive but on the "nicer side".....we're willing to pay?$2000, maybe a bit more, per month to rent a 4 bedroom home or townhome.

Any advise or suggestions are spool greatly appreciated ..... NoVa is far away from the land of Oz

Your budget may be restrictive, but I'd check out West Springfield or the parts of Burke close by. It's a straight shot down Rolling Road to FFX County Parkway to the gates of Belvoir.

Are those both in Fairfax county? The highest we will go with rent is $2600....would that "unrestricted" us a bit?

You should be able to rent a townhouse in South springfield which is very close to the fort, in your price range. The schools are very good also. Check around Alban-Rolling-Fullerton Rd, Fairfax County parkway area.

Yeah, that should be sufficient.

I just realized that you want your kids to go to school on Belvoir. In that case, another option would be to look down the Route 1 corridor in Alexandria. Very easy commute to Belvoir, but the neighborhoods are hit or miss--I wouldn't be comfortable renting there without actually seeing the places in person. Some of it's great, some if it's kind of sketchy.

Kingstowne/Franconia would be an option too. The closer to Telegraph the better for commute purposes.

I like hotpads or padmapper.com to see places on a map.

How will your children go to school on-post if you don't live on-post? To be honest, I would prefer to go to schools off-post anyway. Belvoir Elementary (the only school on post) is very overcrowded.

Yeah, 22153 would be a good place to check out.

That is the correct Zip. My home is perched on a hill. I can see 95 traffic and Fort Belvoir's runway a few miles away. A matter of fact it seems the aircraft use my house as a marker to follow to align with the runway.

I think if the OP is unable to get a transfer to Ft. Belvoir Elementary, then that's the best location.

We've been looking at Alexandria townhomes.....they look nice in pictures, of course. My husband likes the Aventine...is that a good choice? Its not simple to house hunt from a computer to a state you've never been to before...thank you for all your suggestions, very much so.
