Worries tarnish views of Silver Line rail extension - The Washington Post

So apparently the new loudoun bos's have until June 6th to vote for the metro coming to ashburn. They are iffy about the PLA and also the potential rise in tolls to fund it, instead of getting federal funds. I personally think taxes and toll rates will rise even without the metro, and will cripple Loudoun even further by not opting for a metro for the future of the county.

What do you guys think? For the metro to loudoun or against it?

I agree with you. Metro is vital to Loudoun's economic future. Be sure to let your supervisor know that you support Metro.

I know I'm the minority here but I voted nay. I like the fact that LoCo is a bit "removed" from the urban areas and as nice as the faster access to DC might be, metro brings it own issues. So no thanks for me.

Metro makes perfect sense, building more roads doesn't make sense.

Wow, normally I would be the first guy to complain about Loudoun, but big ups guys for bucking the recent politicized trend against "Mass transit is too expensive".

I think even if the silver line doesnt create an Arlington like real estate zone in Loudoun, the sheer productivity benefit of reducing 20-30k peoples commutes by 15 or 20 minutes, not to mention save them 5 or 6 dollars a day in gas/toll far out weighs the very small 150 million dollars up front. By comparison most highschools cost a jurisdiction about the same amount, and yet no one throws up the kind of crazed opposition.

Hey, keep up the progressive mindset and you might have a friend in me... as long as you don't run me off the road or off my bike on my way to work. More roads is just continuing the unsustainable economic status quo. We are starting to see what the real cost of roads are when they have to include the depreciation cost of them... a cost that the state failed to anticipate over the past 30 years of build as much as we can afford.

It's rail to Dulles airport, so stop it at Dulles airport.

To me that wouldn't be a good idea. Anyone west of the Airport would have to go to the Dulles terminal just to get on the Metro. Doesn't make much sense.

It would certainly clog up the parking at IAD if the airport became a major metro lot.

As a resident of Sterling (very close to the airport) I voted yay. I use the metro a lot since I hate parking in DC, so I would love being able to have a station closer to home.

Also, right now the only reasonable way to get out of here is either Route 7 or the Dulles Toll Road. It can't scale up anymore. Mass transit is overdue for this region.
