I've known people who lived at Cameron Court and I've never heard a complaint about Metro noise. This may have to do with where one is located within the complex. There are some apartments that back right up to the tracks. I'd at least take a tour of an apartment and see if the Metro noise bugs you during the tour, since that complex is definitely the best value in the Carlyle/Eisenhower East area.

Tuscany is in a decent area as far as safety goes. Little to no violent crime, but there is property crime (car break-ins and such). That's hard to escape, in general. However, if nightlife and walkability are priorities, I don't think Tuscany is the place for you. The area is well-served by buses, but it's not in a very lively area, and you can't walk to Metrorail.

With your set of priorities, I'd probably stick close to the Old Town/Carlyle area. You should be able to find something in your price range.

Oh, and just a note about condos: Condos should not tack on extra fees if you're a renter. Condo fees are the responsibility of the owner, not the renter. You'd be paying monthly rent and possibly utilities, just like every managed complex in the area.

well pcity, I took your advice and gave it a tour anyways. Cameron Court was really nice! I actually found a lot of the places luxurious, albeit expensive. I guess after living in Wilmington, DE for a bit, it may have lowered my standards. Either that, or NOVA is really THAT damn nice.
