I commute to Rockville from Vienna every morning and travel past all the hot lane and metrorail construction being done around 495 in Tysons's Corner. No matter what time of day, I never see more than a few workers standing around. I would expect THOUSANDS of workers crawling around the site 24/7 like what is seen in the newsreels of the building of the Hoover Dam or the Empire State Building.

Why are there so few workers? This seems to be taking longer than it needs to. These are REAL "shovel ready" jobs.

I would assume most of the work is being done after hours.

I believe most of the work is done in the wee hours when it is safer. I live very close to the Beltway (several acres of our land was taken for the original construction in '60-'63)...and I can hear it. The bridge demolition alone caused several sleepless nights.

I can't imagine trying to work out there with tens of thousands of crazed commuters whizzing by....playing with their Itoys!
