Following up with 2 quick questions about Gainesville:
1) Is there a power plant anywhere nearby (my wife asked about this; she is a physician, though I know many will feel the presence of a plant is irrelevant)? I found a thread from a year ago but it dealt with just one specific location (where apparently there is no plant).

2) Is the winter and summer weather pretty much the same as in DC? I realize it's close enough that the answer may be obvious, but thought I'd ask anyway.

We do know about the traffic (which isn't likely to get better in the future, but that may indicate growth which is good for property values).

Thanks.

I don't know about the power plant. You could probably do an internet search for that.

Yes, the weather is pretty much the same as DC, temperature-wise.

Depending on specific snowstorms, you may get more or less snow than right in the city. Gainesville is south, but also west so depending on which way a storm is coming, you could get 8 inches of snow, while DC might get 3 inches.

But overall, pretty much the same.

I live in Woodbridge and work in DC. Often as I am driving home, my car thermometer will jump 5 degrees or so as I head south.

I can't picture a power station in Gainesville but possibly a small on on Linton Hall Rd. Seems there might be one there but not certain. Weather is close enough to DC's to not notice much different.

I used to live in Gainesville, I don't recall a power plant anywhere near by Linton Hall or through Rt 29.

Gainesville is west of DC and can mean more snow where people inside the beltway received none, since Gainesville is closer to the mountains. However I have noticed the opposite as well.

I loved Gainesville when I lived there, but the traffic around town got rough when all the retail was put in.

Traffic in Gainesville is not bad - much better than in other parts of nova (which maybe isn't saying all that much). However, one of the major traffic problems has already been addressed - the intersection of 66 and 29 is now an exit and not a turn, so that has alleviated a lot of the traffic. There is also major construction going on to create an overpass further down 29, so that should solve the problems in the "center" of Gainesville. 28 is still horrible during rush hour and even when it's not rush hour, but that's more Manassas than Gainesville.

Given how far it is inland from ocean, is humidity in summer a significant issue, absolutely and relative to much closer into D. C.?

When it's summer and the humidity is high it's high everywhere. The humidity sucks here. Doesn't matter if it's DC or Gainesville.

If you would be in a location served by NOVEC, you would be a member-owner of the cooperative and can contact the office and ask. A map of NOVEC's service territory is included in their Owners Manual on page 10.

It is my understanding that NOVEC purchases their power from another G&T cooperative (I believe it is ODEC but I am not 100% certain), in addition to generating electricity through their biomass plant. I would check the NOVEC annual report or contact your district's Director, if you prefer to not phone the office directly.
