I'm interested in looking at what's available up there to rent, and was wondering if I should avoid anywhere in particular. Also, is noise a major issue with the airport nearby?

Nothing in those areas could at all be described as rough. I lived in Pentagon City and we did not have a noise problem, but I don't know how bad it would be in Crystal City closer to the airport.

Only on Memorial Day, when all the scuzzy bikers stay at the hotels there.

Haha, agreed, very safe area, in fact all of Arlington County is safe (0 homicides last year) very few non-bar fight incidents at all.

Yea, that d-bag a few weeks ago tried to screw that up. Has there been any info about that incident? Sounded like a fight over a girl or was it a drug thing?

well, sounds like a good area to me. I have a couple more questions. Is there much nightlife in either area? What line/stop would I take to hit the good D.C. bars? And how much of an inconvenience is it to switch from say the blue line to the orange line if I wanted to hit up Clarendon? I never really used the metros much in the cities I've lived in.

I'm gonna be heading up to NOVA this weekend and I'll be snooping around Alexandria (near the USPTO) and Pentagon City/Crystal City.

There's a little bit of nightlife on 23rd St. in Crystal City. For DC, you're going to want to take the Yellow Line into DC, and from there, there's a number of places you could go (Red Line to Dupont or Adams Morgan; Red Line to Union Station, then bus/cab to H St, etc.)

Blue to Orange to Clarendon is not really inconvenient, but it is much shorter to drive or cab to Clarendon from Pentagon City.

No airplane noise in either place? When I lived in Rosslyn several years ago, I found some areas, especially those close to the Potomac, could get loud noise from planes landing at, or taking off from (depending on wind, etc., direction could change) National Airport.

Please dont drive when you go out at night. 1) its not easier to drive and park, it costs money and is a pain in the ass as well as keeps you from having a good time or turns you into a DUI 2) Cab is a good choice if you are ok with 8 buck fares (which is only about 4 dollars more than metroing)

From Pentagon city you can get to clarendon in 10-15 minutes by both bus or train. Considering it would take 10 minutes to drive/park there its not much of an inconvenience.
