We could still use more information:

1. The names or the towns/cities where your clients are located. To many locals, "North and West Virginia" may sound like either two different parts of the state or two different states.

2. Your housing budget. Along with commute (which may not matter so much in your situation), the mortgage or rent is perhaps the main factor in choosing where to live for most people as it is not inexpensive here.

3. What is your definition of quaint? There are close-in walkable areas (e.g. Falls Church, Old Town Alexandria, Reston Town Center) as well as rural "Main Street" communities (e.g. Leesburg and points due west in Loudoun County). Most of Northern Virginia sees little crime. However, much of it is also fairly high-density suburban.

if someone will be working from a home office, with mostly Richmond clients, and two customers in north or west virginia howsoever defined, I think locating in Richmond (the capital of the commonwealth, not Richmond Highway) sounds like a slam dunk. Look at the areas JEB suggested.
