Your choices are the typical pay lots. Park anywhere else and you might find your car gone when you get back. Maybe someone knows of something but I can't think of anything cheaper at IAD.

The cheapest lots at the airport are $10 a day. Stick with those.

If only there was a metro to the airport that could help someone not have to pay 60 dollars to take a trip.

Heres a hint from a former Herdonite, for that same cost go park somewhere for free in Herndon on the street and take a cab for 15 bucks. Your car won't get stolen as long as you dont park in the shady part of herndon like Alabama street.

Stay over by centreville road/world gate and you are fine.

But it would be pretty nice to have a metro to the airport...cough cough

Dulles doesn't have private lots near the airport like many other airports do. Some of the nearby hotels will let you park there and take their shuttle, but I don't think they're any cheaper than the airport lots. Here's one example: Fairfield Inn: Dulles Park & Fly.

I have also heard of people parking at the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride and taking the 5A Metrobus from there to the airport. I think they may be cracking down on that now, especially since they are doing renovation work on the garages, so there are fewer spaces available.

Just park in a neighborhood street in Herndon or Centreville. There are lots of places on Frying Pan that would be fine doesnt have to be a private parking lot.

Best Parking has an app that can help you find good deals on parking at the airport, as well as in major cities. Some require coupon, though, so you may have to print out a reservation, not just make it on the phone.

There's a company called Global Airport Parking, Global Airport Parking : ATL Airport Parking : Park and Fly DFW : DIA : SJC : TPA : Denver : Atlanta : Detroit : San Jose : Tampa : Sky Harbor : Phoenix Airport Parking, where you can review and book parking at areas surrounding the airport, like participating hotels, and it will give you the option of garage or open lot, etc. With a hotel shuttle, you can save a good deal by planning ahead and going to an off-site location.

Personally, I would not leave a vehicle unattended on the street for days on end, because any parking fee is less expensive than my insurance deductible in the case of vandalism or act of God. At least in a parking facility, the car is covered in case of damage.

Unfortunately the $10 per day long term parking is really your only good option for IAD. Public transit is nonexistent (WMATA tells me to bus to Vienna, take the Metro to Rosslyn, then the 5A bus for a total of about 2-3 hours LOL). Taxi may work if you are close to the airport, but I doubt it for a 6 day trip.

Gotta love having an airport where the only "good" option is to have a friend drop you off.

Isn't that the truth!

Like Tysonsengineer said, it might be worth looking into a cab (it kind of depends on where you live and how long your trip is). For a shorter trip, parking might be cheaper... for a longer one, a cab might be cheaper (and it will be nicer too since you won't have to slog your luggage around as far. And you will probably have more luggage on a longer trip). You just have to crunch the numbers and figure out what works best.

When I've parked at IAD, I park in the long term parking. They have regular shuttles and it seems pretty secure.

One thing about taking a cab - they drop you right at the terminal and there's no wait time outside after parking your car or upon returning to go home. It can shave off 20 minutes or more the way the shuttle buses run if you just miss one. For trips of a week or more it definitely can be cheaper to take a cab, and not have to worry about your car being in the satellite parking lot. One time left my car there, and some idiot bashed their suitcase really good into it and left a nice scratch along the driver's side. Since then take a taxi even if more expensive, just for the peace of mind of having my car in the garage at home, and also the convenience of being dropped off right at the terminal.
