Any suggestions for good places to go kite flying? We want to try something new, instead of our usual spot in Algonkian Park.

I'd like to know this too. I got my daughter into it during the kite festival and we're looking for more local places. I was thinking of Bull Run park. Manassas Battlefield? Looking forward to hearing suggestions.

One nice thing about kite flying in this area is the relative lack of overhead power lines.

This was going to be my suggestion. For years the large hill behind the Old Stone House has attracted some serious kite fliers.

The one off of 29? That's exactly what my co-worker suggested but I've always thought you had to pay to get into the battlefield? I'm not a native to NOVA so haven't been there yet...

You are supposed to, and I always have, but it is mostly on the honor system. If someone catches you, you'll be ticketed, but I've never seen anyone patroling for non-payers.

I would still suggest paying, if for no other reason than the fact your money is going to a worthy cause.

Yes, off of 29. The above is correct.

I just have to say this. I find it seriously disrespectful to fly a kite at Manassas Battlefield. I've never seen anyone do that near the visitor center.

I think BrooklynbornDad had the best suggestion, the grounds near the Washington Monument.

Kite flying is not allowed at the Stone House. The only legal place to fly a kite at the battlefield is at the Brownsville lot off of Groveton.
