Why would they do that when the county seat is Leesburg? Isn't the county building in Leesburg pretty new?

The Leesburg downtown location was thought to be small. In 2008 three new locations were considered: Moorefield Station in Ashburn, Oaklawn in Leesburg, and Village of Leesburg (where the new Wegman's is built). The decision was supposed to be made in 2009. However, no more news after 2008 on this topic. I wonder what the status is on this matter. Is the moving plan dead or on hold?

I don't know the status, but many projects across the country lost funding around that time after the real estate crash in 2008 and tax collections didn't meet expectations.

I remember in Fairfax County, there was a similar project planned in Baileys Crossroads for an "East County" office building that would have also contained mixed use retail and residential space (dubbed the 'Weisberg Project'). They even went as far as to release renderings. However, after 2008 nothing else was heard about the project and it still has not broken ground to date. No one knows if it is canceled, delayed or what.

I suspect something similar happened to the county building in Loudoun

Sounds like something to waste our money on. I'm glad they didn't build it. We need lower taxes in Loudoun!

Per page 166 of Loudoun's Capital Needs Assessment, the project was pushed back:

Quote:
Due to the development of Phase II of the Adult Detention Center, the Eastern Vehicle Support Facility, and the Consolidated Shops and Warehouse facility, the Government Administrative Center is not proposed for
development until 2026.

Thank you for the link. Looks like Leesburg is still going to be the county seat and the new center won't be built until after 2026.

Thanks! Good news! They don't need a new building, the current building works just fine and is very close to the county court house.
