Default Old Town Alexandria

Does anyone know about the different areas of old town alexandria. I would like to buy a place down there, but wanted to know about different parts. There seem to be large price differences in different areas.

I can't really offer a street-by-street analysis, but can just give the general gist in that those neighborhoods closest to the heart of Old Town Alexandria (around Duke and King streets) and those closest to the water, are the nicest and therefore, the most expensive.

As you move further out, they prolly are less in cost but more crime ridden...We vacation in Old Town a few times a year. I was told to never go past princess street. I am not even sure if we ever were near that street or not while there, but I never had any problems ever up there, we even go out at night, on the metro and out to eat and etc, with our child and always felt safe, we love that area!
