I just moved to the Broyhill Crest area of Annandale, and I'm trying to figure out if there are any jogging trails that would be an improvement over a jaunt around the subdivision. I am admittedly incredibly spoiled, having had access to the GW bike trail for many years, and I miss having a paved, dedicated, safe jogging trail. I don't expect to find GW in Annandale, but are there any options at all nearby? Thanks!

What about Mason District Park - I know there used to be some nice nature trails in that park that runners used. Not sure about if they are still there, but they may be.

I wondered about that...I can sort of see a trail that runs alongside the road for a bit, but it seems like it goes for maybe a quarter mile and stops. Hopefully I'm wrong about that!

The info for Mason currently refers to a "hiking trail," which I think is in the more wooded middle and rear of the park (treating the entrance on Columbia Pike as the front of the park). If it's the same thing I remember from years ago, most or all of it isn't paved, but it's fine for running

Good memory, JEB77! I take my dog through those hiking trails regularly and there are often runners along the trail. Bewarned that it is fairly hilly in sections.

The Cross-County Trail north of Rt. 236 is paved for miles, pretty much all in the woods. If you're OK with nice but unpaved trails you can go south through Wakefield Park to Accotink. If you don't feel like running from where you are to the CCT you can park by the baseball field just southwest of the I-495/Rt. 236 interchange, which is right where the trail changes to pavement as it goes under 236.

I would also suggest the Accotink/CCT trail

see

Accotink trail - excursion one

accotink excursion, the second

accotink excursion - part 3

accotink excursion, part 4, wakefield to Lake Accotink

I also see folks sometimes jogging along the side of some of the arterials, such as Hummer Road.

Fantastic info, I had googled and looked at several jogging enthusiast sites but found nothing for this area, and had posted here with very little hope. I think I'm going to try driving over this weekend to check out CCT. Thanks very much all, glad to know Arlington doesn't have the monopoly on great jogging.
