I am currently trying to decide on a service provider for phone, internet and tv and these are the two that service my area. Does anybody have any opinions on either one of these? With the promotional deals they are about the same cost, so I would like to base my decision on provides better service. Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks

My parents live in Springfield, VA and have FIOS, they used to have Cox Cable internet before that. I have Comcast here in the Bay Area. The internet service I have is the 6Mbps service from Comcast, and it is significantly slower than FIOS. Both are fast, but I was pushing 10Mbps when downloading at some points. In terms of service I'm not sure how good the Comcast digital TV service is, the FIOS service is the best I've seen so far specially the HD service, in comparison to Satellite TV service there are much fewer noticeable.

If they ever bring FIOS to the Bay Area at the prices they're offering over at NoVA I'll try to get it. On the plus side for Comcast they are currently under billing me since I asked for Basic Cable, and they installed Standard Cable, and they are billing me for Basic Cable. Anyway I recommend Verizon FIOS.

Be wary though, if you get FiOS, they will sever your old copper phone lines I believe.

My entire neighborhood was switched to Comcast under our HOA and it only took us two weeks to realize it was a big mistake. The service was terrible and billing was a nightmare. We switched back to DirecTV after a month of headaches. Stay clear of Comcast.

We were one of the first in our neighborhood to get Verizon FIOS a few years ago and we love it. We've had very few problems (none of which were actually Verizon's fault) and the response to those few was super-fast and friendly.
As the above poster mentioned, they do sever your copper phone wires, so that in a power outage, you will only have a limited backup supply of phone service (about 2 hours, I think). This hasn't been a problem for us thus far.

I've had Comcast for a few years now, and LOVE IT!! I've never experienced any down times when I was online, which is quite regularly because of work. I'm hearing good things about FIOS---maybe worth checking out. But it terms of cost, reliability, and customer service, I've never had any problems with Comcast...everything has been stellar for me!!
