I live in southern Howard County up in Maryland. I got a job with NoVa Community College which I would like to take as I think I will enjoy working at a learning oriented and relaxed environment.

I understand there are small # of people who commute from Howard County to Northern VA, but how feasible is it if you start early like 6 o'clockl? From southern Howard County to NoVa campus, it will be around 40 miles one-way and the traffic on the beltway will be a problem. Is this manageable up to about 6 months if you start early? I will eventually have to move down to Fairfax county, but moving now may not be affordable for me....

What other way of commutes would be avaialbe from Howard County to NoVa campus down in Fairfax county if you don't drive your own car?

Thank you for you help.

For 6 months? Yeah, it's feasible. It won't be fun, but at 6 AM, I think you'll be okay. I wouldn't want to do it for years on end, but for the short-term, it will be bearable - especially if 3 of those months are in the summer.

I wouldn't leave any later than 6:00 a.m. for a commute like that.

I'm sure there's some sort of MARC/Metro/Metrobus-Fairfax Connector combination you can come up with between Howard County and NVCC, but it would likely be incredibly lengthy and impractical for commuting. You're best off driving.
