After looking at a number of stores when searching for a new king-sized mattress a few years ago, we ended up buying our Sealy Posturepedic at Sears in Fair Oaks Mall. We were happy with the purchase. Costco is another option as well.

If you don't care whether the mattress matches the box spring, you may be able to get better prices.

Carlingtonian and Vermonter16, I love my Tempur-Pedic, but I know not everyone does. Mine also is nearing 10 years old and I don't see any wear either. Of course, Carlingtonian and his wife may lead a much wilder life than we do...

Hey all...

I thought I'd report back... I checked out Mattress Discounters, Mattress Warehouse,
Sears, Macy's, and JC Penny's. I looked at Sealy, S&F, Simmons, and Serta. I was looking
for the best feeling mattress up to $2,000 in price.

I ended up buying the top model Serta that Macy's had. Carlingtonian was right on the money!!
In general, Macy's had upgraded mattress fabrics and the pricing was excellent. Sears had the
lowest price. Better than Macy's by about $50-$100 depending on the model. I went with Macy's
for the nicer fabric.

Costco Sealy and S&F Mattress's were crap.. All kinds of stitching flaws, lower quality mattress
fabric, and no delivery. Plus the mattresses were all jammed into a rack so the plastic bags had tears
letting dust in. I would never buy there. I bet these were factory seconds judging on all stitching
flaws that I saw. Really Pathetic..

Mattress Discounters and Mattress Warehouse had slightly higher prices than either the Sears or
Macy's Memorial Day Sales. Plus the mattress fabric was of cheaper grade at Discounters/Warehouse.

JC Penny had the worst prices. Highest prices of the bunch.

I was very pleasantly surprised with Macy's..

Tom, thanks for the update! I'm sure this will be very helpful to future mattress shoppers. You did a much more thorough comparison than we did. (I'm surprised to hear that Costco's offerings were not as high-quality.) Glad you got a good deal on a good mattress.

Ours is a Simmons, and we're happy with it. But I will say this to future shoppers: Be advised that the "normal"-profile box spring is about 1.5 feet high. (They offered a low-profile box spring, which we now wish we'd chosen.) So we can't sit on the edge of the bet to put on our socks anymore.

Oh, ACWhite: We're still on the same mattress, but we go through a new trampoline every six months.

I got the "low-profile" box spring. For people wondering..

Standard Box-Spring is 9" high
Low Profile Box-Spring is 5" high
