Does he know which entrance to Ft. Belvoir he'll be using?

I mean, he can...I live in Lake Ridge and used to work in Newington. He could go straight up Rt. 1 but I'm not sure how much better that would be during rush hour. Alternatively, he could go up 123 and around the old prison, through Lorton Station to the Parkway, which is much longer in distance but has less traffic. Not sure it's worth it though.

I can guarantee you that Rt. 1 is not a viable option. Worse than 95.

I think if you are driving from Lake Ridge to Ft. Belvoir you probably won't save any time taking Route 1 from Woodbridge. You will only be going 2 or 3 exits on I-95 and the real traffic jam doesn't start until you get close to the Springfield mixing bowl. Depending on the time of day, day of week, and weather, one route may be better than the other so you will probably switch back and forth.

My husband works at Ft. Belvoir. He leaves around 5:55 AM and gets there by 6:30 or so. He takes 95. He doesn't get on at the Pr. Wm. Pkway but takes the local roads to the on-ramp after the Occoquan bridge. Traffic tends to back-up and slow down at Pr. William Pkway with all the merging etc.

I'm at Belvoir - we have alot of people in the office that live in woodbridge and Lake ridge. None of them take Rt 1, they avoid it like the plague. But they are also the early birds, in the office by 6:00.

Not that this has anything to do with the topic at hand but I start a new job on Monday in Dunn Loring and I live in Manassas. I start at 6AM and get off at 3PM. Only way I would have taken this job.

My work hours are 6:00AM-2:30PM. Commuting is beautiful. I don't know if I could ever take another job with different work hours.

I idea of going to bed at 9:00pm and getting up at 4:00am to go to work sounds really depressing. I could never do it.

You get used to it. Plus it's a heck of lot less depressing than sitting in traffic at a grinding halt for an hour or more.

Once I jettison the kids and their college tuitions, I'm getting a nice apartment in town where I can roll out of bed and be in the office 30 minutes later at 9AM!!!!
