Hi all,

My wife and I (mid-late twentys) are trying to decide on an apartment in either Shirlington or Pentagon City. I'll be working the first 2 months in Ballston, and then I'll be working in Crystal City. My wife doesn't yet know where she'll be working.

I know that Shirlington has a great bus station, but I don't know how crowded the busses are, if they're on time, etc. If they are, WMATA says its about a 20 minute bus ride to either location. Pentagon City obviously has the metro, and I'd be able to work to my job in Crystal City.

We have a dog, no kids, and we think we've found a viable apartment in both locations.

So, we're just wondering, are there other unknown facts about either location? (I'm in Texas, and my wife only had 24 hours to scope everything out) Also, does anyone know about the bus situation in Shirlington?

Thanks in advance!

Both are good locations for you. Because you don't yet know where your wife will be working, the metro accessibility may be important, since it would give her more transportation options for certain employment locations.

There are a couple of still-transitioning areas in Shirlington, and living farther from Rt. 1/110 in CC/PC is better than living closer to it. Addison Heights in CC/PC has nice (rental) houses next door to not-so-nice. There are more high rises in PC and more townhouses in Shirlington.

Welcome to the neighborhood(s)!

Got it, thanks! That's a good point about my wife and the metro. We're looking at Windsor House in Shirlington, and she seemed to really like the area.

Thanks again!

Shirlington has the best dog park in the area right across the street, with lots of dog friendly restaurants in the neighborhood.

Pentagon City has the metro, and is walkable to a very nice mall, several big box stores, and as many restaurants as Shirlington, if not more. Dog park is a quick 5-10 minute drive away.

I don't think you can go wrong with either location. If the apartments are the same price, I'd go with PC so you have the metro access in case your wife needs it.

Shirlington is extremely dog friendly with a huge dog park. I live in Shirlington and drive to Pentagon City everyday. I love everything about Shirlington...it would be nice to have the metro but everything else out weighs that. If you have to have the metro then look at Pentagon Row which is nice but its no Shirlington.
