Area around Northern Virginia Community College (Arlington)
What's the community around NVCC?
There is also a smallish Ethiopian complex in that area...and just around the corner from a large Target store?
What is the name of that community there?

I thought he might be asking about the NoVa/Alexandria campus in Shirlington, which is close to a Target at Skyline/Bailey's Crossroads and some Ethiopian restaurants on South George Mason Drive in Falls Church.

I think that is Baileys Crossroads. That is NVCC Alexandria.

It's NVCC Alexandria and that community is called Skyline City/Bailey's Crossroads if you are referring to the high-rise apts.

I've lived in Arlington for 11 years and have no idea where NVCC is. However, the Target on Route 50 is just over the border in Falls Church. The Target on Skyline is just over the border in Alexandria. Shirlington is about as far south as you can be in Arlington.

Both of those Targets have Falls Church addresses, actually.
The Target just over the border on Route 1 does have an Alexandria address though.

That's the skyline area of Alexandria; it's near the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College; the area is also called "Baileys Crossroads."

That's the place! What is that? Shirlington or Bailey's Crossroads? Or kind of a mix of both?

Yeah, I think so too. It's fairly close to Falls Church, and probably does have a Falls Church address.

That's the place...over on George Mason Blvd. I believe you were the one that recommended checking out that little Ethiopia area. Looked like a cool little area, could check out the Ethiopian stuff, a ton of high-rises to potentially rent, and could walk around the corner to Target as well.
Peculiar area. Target seems to be in Falls Church than, the Ethiopian complex with large hi-rises across from it seems to be in Arlington, and than I guess NVCC is actually Alexandria than?? Is there some larger inclusive name for that spot where they all seem to converge? What's the reputation of that particular area?

There's not really a name for the entire area.
NVCC is in the City of Alexandria and its address is also Alexandria. Target and the Ethiopian complex are in Fairfax County and have Falls Church addressses. The Ethiopian complex is literally next to the Alexandria/Fairfax County border.
The area near Target and the Ethiopian shopping center would generally be considered "Skyline" or "Bailey's Crossroads". "Skyline" is the name of the complex with the large high-rises, which Target is also part of. "Skyline" is also sometimes used to refer to the areas adjacent to the high-rises, like the Ethiopian shopping center.
The area near NVCC would be considered West End Alexandria, but that name encompasses a lot of neighborhoods in Alexandria.
None of these areas would be considered Arlington. Nothing south of Route 7/Leesburg Pike/King St. is in Arlington.

Skyline is an older suburban area. Large immigrant population, particularly Ethiopians, Indians, Pakistanis, and Middle Easterners. Some Salvadorans too (the Target has signs in both English and Spanish), but not as many compared to other parts of Bailey's Crossroads closer to Columbia Pike.
Safe from a violent crime standpoint but there are car break-ins and such. Traffic is pretty bad on the main roads and the main roads are fairly ugly from an aesthetic point of view. Lots of strip malls and the gigantic towers look very out of place. The residential neighborhoods off of Seminary seem nice and quiet though.
