I am starting a new job in Chantilly. What nearby neighborhoods are recommended to live in that are safe? I would prefer an apartment or condo rental for $1400 max.

Is Centreville safe? What other areas in Fairfax?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Getting to I66 on Rt50 from Chantilly in the PM rush is painful. Heading west on Rt50 through and beyond Chantilly is worse.

I used to call Centreville townhouse hell. There is much to choose from in your range. Western Fairfax and Loudon is pretty safe and affluent.

Are Oakton, Fairfax,Vienna and Falls Church also recommended areas? Would the drive to and from these areas in rush hour be over 45mins?

Oakton, Fairfax usually no. Vienna, it depends. Falls Church may be at 40-45 mins, it depends where in Falls Church.

I don't like Chantilly that much because of the airplane noise

Just curious... would you consider living in Chantilly or its immediate suburbs? Or are you wanting to be closer to the city?

Chantilly is pretty cheap, but there isn't much housing in Chantilly itself. There's some, but not a lot.

Herndon is right up the road and is convenient to most workplaces in Chantilly. Take a look at apartment complexes off Centreville Rd-- Archstone at Woodland Crossing is one that comes to mind.
