Hello! We are looking to move into Woodbridge VA. What are the best areas? I know some parts aren't so great and ideally would like to avoid this as we have a son due in August so safety is a very big concern for us. Also, we are trying to stay within our budget. Woodbridge seems fairly less expensive but I do know you "get what you pay for" but ultimately we can only afford a rental up to $1200 if utilities are included.

Thanks so much in advance!

Look predominantly in the 22192 zip code.

Look in the 22192 zip code. This is the Lake Ridge area of Woodbridge. Overall Lake Ridge is a nice, safe community with some areas that might be iffy but once you've picked out some specific homes, you can post them here and some of us can give you our opinions.

What kind of space do you need? I know that everyone wants as much as possible, but it will be nearly impossible to get a 3BR condo for that price. You may be able to find a 2BR apartment or condo, but I doubt all utilities will be provided. 22192 can be nice, but there are apartment complexes in 22191 that are safe and decent.

Also, where will you or your spouse be working? This could affect recommendations, because access to transportation can make a big difference in your monthly budget (and thus how much you can afford for housing).

Woodbridge is more affordable, but maybe not that affordable. I think you will have difficulty finding anything with 2BR for $1200 with utilities, in a recommendable area, that isn't a basement or room share.

If you could bump that up just a bit, you might have better luck.

Alternately, depending on your reasons for being in Woodbridge, you might consider looking further south in Dumfries/Triangle/Stafford where the dollars stretch more.

I can give an opinion on neighborhoods from a law enforcement standpoint if you name them. I don't want to just say Lake Ridge or something.

Rental prices in the Woodbridge area have increased significantly over the last year. For $1200 you may find a 1BR apartment or a basement for rent but not much more.

Will your son be in daycare too? That definitely plays a role in this too. Not sure if you are from the area and/or if you have considered daycare cost, but if you aren't from the area, it can be expensive even for Woodbridge especially for a newborn, just depends on where you send him.
