I know this is going to get some "WTF are you thinking responses", but can anybody give me an idea of the commute time from McLean to Andrews AFB and accessibility to the public transportaion in McLean? Have a job offer but little time to set-up accommodations or actually check out the area. Thanks for any advice.

Public transportation will not get you from McLean to Andrews. If you look at a map of the DC region, you'll see that Andrews is all the way on the other side of the Beltway from McLean. I haven't driven that route very often, especially at rush hour, but I'd guess that it would take well over an hour at peak traffic times.

Yikes! Well, apparently there is a very convoluted and inconvenient public transportation option if you're set on it. I figured there had to be some way to go about it, but uncertain myself, I plugged it into the Trip Planner section of Metro's site and apparently you can take a bus from McLean to Rosslyn Metro station, board the Blue Line, transfer to the Green Line at L'Enfant Plaza, ride the train out to Suitland, and then take a bus from Suitland to the Main Gate of Andrews Air Force Base. The total trip clocks in at one hour, 50 minutes. The URL doesn't transfer over with my results, but you can plug them in yourself to see:

Metro - Trip Planner

Driving will be a nightmare as well, but it will at least be more directm and will also probably take less time and may even be cheaper as well. I'm not sure how long that commute would stretch since it is pretty much entirely on the Beltway, but I'd imagine an hour on a really good day, but more like 80-90 minutes on average. That's honestly just a guess on my part though based on what I've generally seen on the Beltway during the rush hour, but I've never driven that whole route myself during rush hour.

Thanks for the link dull, I was hoping for about 60-75 mins, se la vie. Alexandria is looking better everyday. The search continues.
