Its been baffling me... You have Rt 15, White's Ferry and the Beltway (which I don't even think is Loudoun)...

You'd think there'd be more ways to cross to and from River Rd...

Is there a reason anyone is aware of or plans in the works somewhere?

Just curious.

Ask the people on the Maryland side. For some reason, they don't seem to want all us Northern Virginians plowing up their rural and farm lands just so we can get to Rockville a little faster.

Maryland doesn't want it.

I would love to see Route 28 continue past 7, cross the Potomac, and meet up with the ICC - but I'm not holding my breath.

I would love to see one from Prince William County crossing over to Southern Maryland.

There are two other routes from Loudoun across the river into Maryland - you can take Berlin Turnpike from Lovettsville north into Brunswick - or Harpers Ferry Road up to 340 and east. (Both of these land you in Frederick County, not Montgomery as the original question stated - but Point of Rocks is also Frederick County. You can take the MARC train from either place, anyway.)

There is actually an infinite number of routes for getting from eastern Loudon County into Montgomery County, but none of them is actually very useful. White's Ferry is cute, but it's unreliable and a pain. Save perhaps for canoe, there is no other immediately available means of crossing the Potomac between Point of Rocks and the Cabin John Bridge. That's the problem and as above, Maryland is what stands in the way of a solution to it.

Because the Maryland side where a bridge would go, would pass right through the Potomac/Darnestown/Poolesville area which is loaded with Montgomery County power brokers, lawyers, lobbiest, congressional members and staff. The money, horses and environmentalists have controlled that area forever. And, since Montgomery County and Maryland are having all kinds of financial problems, they're not about to anger any more millionaires and make them move to Virginia, Frederick or Howard Counties.

The NIMBYs don't like infrastructure.

Thanks everyone... I figured I couldn't be the only one to have looked at a map and wondered this... Figured there was a reason (Whether the reason is logical or not is another discussion for another time..).
