What is rush hour traffic like on VA 123 from PWC northbound to Fairfax (south in the evening)?

Yesterday, I had to attend a workshop at Flint Hill School in Oakton and I traveled Rt. 123 all the way up from Lake Ridge.

I left the house at 8am and arrived to my destination about 55 minutes later. I think it's not so much the volume, but the traffic lights that slow things down. Traffic moved slower between the FFX Pkwy and Braddock Road intersections. I think it was because of the stop lights (a bit of a backup) and GMU traffic.

On the way home, I left Oakton at 2:30pm (so I was beating rush hour) and was home in 45 minutes.

All in all, I found it to be a very easy trip.

I work in McLean. The last time I took 123 home to woodbridge, it took me over 2 hours leaving around 5, no accidents. Never again. I take 495 and 95 home, leaving at 530 im home usually around 630 tops. If 495 is bad I wait a few and hit 395 HOV at the pentagon when it opens to all traffic at 6.

Well yeah, that's because you had to do the portion of 123 between McLean and Fairfax - including Lewinsville/Great Falls Rds., Tysons, Vienna, Oakton, and crossing 29. That's definitely worse than the southern half, which thankfully is all the OP has to worry about.

Exactly. 123 south of Fairfax is simply beyond the major garbage points. This is true both morning and evening but doesn't mean that there will not be any "bad days".

I'm in Lake Ridge and had to do some training in Herndon (Worldgate Dr.) a few weeks ago. It took about 45-60 minutes to get there, and on the way back slightly more. Traffic was always moving and not ever as bad as I95/I395 gets. It does get heavy near 50 because of all that construction, but it wasn't too bad.

Did you take FFx Co Parkway the whole way? Or cut 66 over to 28? (I guess it depends on which part of Herndon you're going to)

I guess I should have clarified. Here's pretty much the route I took: Woodbridge, VA 22192 to Worldgate Dr, Herndon, VA 20170 - Google Maps I was on a motorcycle and I never exceeded 175 MPH so your times may vary

Wow! I walked down to 7-11 about an hour ago, and I never exceeded 175 MPH either. Small world...
